Jason Wilton Wetzel - Historian and Author of History Books
A former high school teacher and historian for the US Department of Defense, Jason Wilton Wetzel has a bachelor’s in history from Towson University and a master’s in education and history from Georgia State University. Jason Wilton Wetzel retired from his role as historian for the US Army at Fort Bragg in 2016 after five years.
After his retirement, Mr. Wetzel researched and wrote about Army history, conducted community outreach and living history programs, and collaborated with the National Museum of the Army Reserve. He also served as deputy director and executive officer for the Office of Army Reserve History in Fort Bragg.
Prior to his role as a historian, Mr. Wetzel served as a field historian for the US Army and as director of education for the National Museum of Patriotism. He has also taught high school history and held a sales and marketing position with AT&T.
Jason Wetzel is passionate about World War II, and one of his favorite pastimes is reading history books on the topic. In 2019 he co-authored the history book Georgia POW Camps in World War II. His newest book, Virginia POW Camps in World War II, was published in 2022.
